Timothy Wiegand, MD, FACMT, FAACT, DFASAM
Dr. Timothy J. Wiegand is a distinguished Medical Toxicologist and Addiction Specialist who serves as the Director of Addiction Medicine in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Rochester Medical Center. He is the founder of the Toxicology and Addiction Medicine Consult Service at URMC where he continues to provide bedside care for patients with intoxication, overdose, substance use disorder and addiction-related emergencies. Dr. Wiegand is a former President of the New York Society of Addiction Medicine (NYSAM) and had been a NYSAM Board member for over 8 years before stepping down. Dr. Wiegand also currently serves as the Medical Director for two overdose prevention programs in Upstate New York—Recovery AllWays® (RAW) and HopeDealers BTC®. These programs are integral for naloxone distribution and other harm reduction efforts in Monroe County, a critical region in New York grappling with fentanyl-related overdose deaths.
Dr. Wiegand also serves as Co-chair for the New York Department of Health AIDS Institute Substance Use Care Guidelines Committee and holds the position of Treasurer for the Medical Toxicology Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the American College of Medical Toxicology (ACMT). Additionally, he is a member of the Board of Directors and Treasurer of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM). He has contributed to or led numerous expert panels focused on the treatment of substance use disorders, drug testing, and related topics.
