Stefan Kertesz, MD
Stefan G. Kertesz, MD, MSc is an investigator and physician in internal medicine and addiction medicine at the Birmingham VA Health Care System (BVAHCS), and Professor of Medicine at the Heersink School of Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Dr. Kertesz’s clinical work and research focuses on enhancing health care delivery for populations at high risk of receiving poor care, in particular persons experiencing homelessness.
His research has included a long-term interest in enhancing health and social services for populations experiencing homelessness, including housing, addiction recovery support, and service alterations to assure that primary care is effective. Over several years he led a team studying the adoption of Housing First within housing sponsored jointly by the US Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
