Melanie Maclennan, MD


Dr Melanie MacLennan is a Diplomate of American Board of Addiction Medicine (2015) and  Diplomate of American Board of Family Practice.  She is a 1993 Graduate of SUNY Downstate Medical School and received her Master’s in Public Health in Maternal & Child Health from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. (1995)

After residency at UNC Asheville, her Family Medicine practice focused on women’s health ( Abortion care through 16 weeks), particularly for those women living in geographically and socio-economically underserved communities in the Asheville, NC and  the Southern states. 

She is a graduate of Stockton State College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts and has a Master’s degree in Photography from California Institute of the Arts.

Dr MacLennan has treated the diseases of addiction in a wide variety of medical settings including working at hospital detoxification programs providing comprehensive evaluations, consultations and medical management of withdrawal.   She has directed  community out-patient opiate and alcohol detox centers and managed multi-disciplinary medical teams to establish best practices and medical management protocols for treating patients with active addiction disorders.  Currently, Dr MacLennan is the Medical Director of the Catch (Consult for Addiction Treatment and Care in Hospitals) at Elmhurst Hospital.

Dr MacLennan takes an integrated approach to the treatment of her addiction patients, including treating the co-occurring disorders of psychiatric diagnosis and trauma related disorders. She is a licensed Buprenorphine provider and has been using medication assisted treatment in her practice for over fifteen years.
